TRIBALISM

Tribalism

This is one of the more sore subjects in Nigerian society. The Nigeria of today is more divided tribalistically than any other social factor and this division can bring about the most intense hatred and it’s really alarming. I mean just go to blogs like Linda Ikeji or Nairaland, check for posts or discussions about any tribe and just read the comments you will be amazed at the amount of hateful, spiteful, toxic and sometimes quite funny insults and shades thrown at different tribes.
In my opinion (which is basically what this blog is about my opinion on everything) tribalism is a major factor as to why Nigeria is in the rot that is our present situation. Instead of picking the best man for the job we pick the from our tribe or as they say my brother (even though the only common ancestor between them might be Abraham of the bible. Even amongst the educated “elite” tribalism is still rampant. And then even more annoying is the fact that within the same ethnic groups some factions do not like each other or even see eye to eye.

Here are some examples:
1.    In the Ibo cultures we have silly stuff like the Osus and the Dialas I can’t even explain what that is all about please look it up.
2.    In imo state there is a local saying that “if you are in the forest alone with a gun and two bullets and you see a Lion, a Snake and an Mbaise man shoot the mbaise man twice. (LOL really!!!)
3.    Yoruba’s in Ife and those in Modakeke have had serious clashes that ended in loss of lives.
4.    Then some people in Kwara state which is recognized as a Yoruba state don’t consider themselves as Yoruba even though they have Yoruba names.
Just to mention a few.
Nawa ooo!!!!

Anyway here are also some common inter-tribal prejudices.
1.    Yoruba people are too dirty and very promiscuous
2.    Ibo people like money too much
3.    Hausa people are very illiterate and very violent
4.    Benin people are sex workers
5.    Calabar people are very fetish and their women are very good in bed

Really ehn!!! Such generalizations are the crux of the problem and most people just prefer to stick with popular opinion and don’t bother to get to know about each other.
Naija we are one all this tribalism nonsense should stop. It doesn’t make sense that such things still happen in this 21st century. Things would be a lot better if we all just were more open minded more tolerant and more caring. Daz all!!!!
